How to win at Wordle
Six guesses, five letters: pick words that fit every clue.
You get six guesses to find one five-letter word. After each guess, a green tile means the letter is right and in the right spot, a yellow tile means the letter is in the word but in a different spot, and a gray tile means the word has no more copies of that letter than your clues already account for.
1. Start with a strong opener
Use a word with common, different letters. The starting word rankings show which ones split the answer list best.
2. Use a second word that tests new letters
If the first guess gave few clues, try a second word that has no letters in common with it. Two good openers test ten different letters between them.
3. Keep your clues in mind
Put green letters back in the same spots. Place yellow letters in new spots. Do not reuse gray letters unless a letter is doubled.
4. Watch for double letters
A gray tile on a letter you also have in green or yellow means the word has only that many copies of the letter, not none. The double-letter list shows how many words repeat a letter.
5. Beware of word families
Patterns such as _IGHT, _OUND or _ATCH fit many words. When you have four letters and several words left, use a guess that tests the first letters of those words instead of guessing one at a time. The solver suggests such a guess when 400 or fewer words remain.
Hard mode
Hard mode makes you reuse every revealed hint in later guesses. It limits your options, so lean on words that fit all the clues so far.
